A personal note from Vince Shorb:

My desire to provide young adults with practical financial education began when I found myself deep in debt. In my mid 20’s I barely made ends meet; and life felt like a constant struggle. My broke years made a profound impact on my life as it motivated me to learn everything I could about personal growth, money and investing.

The fuel to my fire came when I had the opportunity to talk with over 20,000 homeowners and on a weekly basis I would hear heartbreaking stories in of people in desperate financial situations. I realized many people were making similar mistakes when it came to the handling of their personal finance; and most of these financial situations could have easily been prevented. These were the initial sparks that help start the inner fire to spread the message of financial literacy.

About Gillian Leithman, M.Sc.:

Gillian Leithman, M.Sc. is the president of Directions Third Age Consultants Inc., a corporate training company dedicated to helping people prepare for their emotional well-being in retirement. Gillian also teaches at the John Molson School of business.

After spending her graduate school years studying men’s and women’s financial preparation for retirement, Gillian concluded that women lag behind men in planning for their financial futures. Although this finding was far from surprising, Gillian wondered, why is this so?

The good news is that it is not a lack of ability that is holding women back from creating a financially secure future, but it is the wrong attitude and some bizarre beliefs about money.

Having seen the devastating consequences of poverty in old age, Gillian has made it her mission to teach young women to overcome the “emotional” obstacles that prevent them from managing their money and inspire them to create a financially secure life.
